End of 2012

This was a great kimono full year. I have 16 kimono (or was it 17 kimono?), and i gained many accessories. well This post is really late, truthfully i should have posted a week ago... i'm not sure if I will ever find my festival photos of any other pics that i have no idea where they went but i have pics now i think one last post for the year is ideal.

First i would like to list my kimono accomplishments of the year.
- i have worn kimono for 12 hours
- i have driven for 4, 30 min  bouts in one weekend.
- I have made many contacts on the internet.
-i have had several real life "normal" friends and the such tell me: "I love all of your kimono pics!"
- i have bought several Obiage
-I made new kimono contacts in real life.
-I was recognised by a japanese man as 'a girl who wore kimono to the japanese festival'.

lols i'm sure there are more acomplishments i have made but in truth i find that i still love kimono which is what matters to me, though my 'kimono fever' isnt quite as all consuming as before i stilll have wants... so now i shall list a few kimono goals for 2013

1. i want 1 black kimono
2. i want many new cute obi
3. 1 want a semi formal summer kimono
4. i want 1 Ro/Sha kimono

and i will leave it at that for now! XD now on to my kimono escapades!
On christmas day i hopped into kimono twice for fun.

It was a fun day! The orange kimono is a christmas gift, the green one was not. The yellow hakata obi is summer weight which is awesome! ( i mean come on i live in texas the place where summer and winter temperatures intermingle!)

not long after Christmas Day came ikkicon. i wore my adorable wool cherry komon with twin braids!

Well thats it for 2012! Happy New Year everyone!

Rainy day kitsuke

well yesterday was yucky and gray... but i just had to get in kimono and feel pretty. This was my second kitsuke in  two days which is more kitsuke then usual for me. So i broke out my IG Prize and put on the main peices... as in the kimono, the obi, the obijime, and the obiage. being still quite warm here in Texas i wore my hitoe juban (if i had a Ro juban i'm sure it would get much love). Texas has a longer and hotter summer then japan (i think any way by their awase- hitoe- ro/sha calendar) so i may not be able to wear awase much untill  mid october...

oh well thats enough gripeing! so here are some lovely kimono pics!

I must say, thease are some of my favorite kimono pics so far. I look cute, the kimono looks neat... my 1+ years of self teaching have paid off! thank you for the support every one! (though i mostly get support from the stats... i wish more people commented...)

furisode and weekend plans

Ok so a while back i got a furisode, a nice long and pretty one... the sleeves are around 110 cm long! So here is a pic of my most expensive kimono!
well I plan on wearing this baby to Easter so i will practice, get better, and try again! :D

In other news, there are two events this Saturday! The first is something yearly, it is called the hairy man festival. this festival has food, local shop sellers, games and even a few rides. The reason for this festival is mainly due to a legend.

here is the legend,  i got it from: http://www.texastripper.com/round-rock/hairy-man.html

The legend of Round Rock's Hairy Man dates to pioneer days. Various versions of the local legend say a young boy either fell off a wagon as pioneers headed west or was separated from them by flood waters. However it happened, the boy then either lived on his own in the woods or was raised by local animals. Eventually the boy grew into a man and became a hermit and, well, very hairy.

The story says the hairy man frequently tried to chase away strangers and would hide in the trees to scare passers by, sometimes sitting up in the tree canopy which grew over the road, dragging his feet on the top of passing stagecoaches. One day, he supposedly fell in front of a stagecoach and was trampled to death, doomed to haunt the shady road to this day.

Well that is the legend...  and so almost every year we celebrate. there is even a hairy man contest!

The second event  is the Austin Teen book festival. I will leave the house at 9:00 am and head over to a friends house so we can go and have fun! And of course... i will be going in kimono. I think i will go in my bunny yukata (the true last yukata wearing of the year for me) and i hope to have a lot of fun (when else can i wear a kimono?).

well that's all folks!

I can't seem to stop!

I'm beginning to feel as if i have a bit of a kimono problem... so i have decided that i will only buy two more kimono this year... one of which i just purchased... tee hee? (pic of my new baby at the bottom)
Otherwise i really feel i need to focus on obi... i have already gotten a nice amount of obijime and i now have 7 obiage (3 pink, 1 purple, 1 red, 1 green, 1 yellow) which is a pretty decent amount... but i feel i am very much lacking in obi!

So over the next few months i plan to begin operation obi! i currently have 12 kimono in my hands, 2 more are on the way... but i only have 9 obi... kind of sad right? I mean the respected ratio is supposed to be 2 obi for every 1 kimono... i don't even have a 1 to 1 ratio... and so my goals:

- to buy 5-7 obi

i need some fun colors too... i have too much in the pink and red department... i also have a good number of cream obi... so i am aiming for
1 yellow obi
1 green obi
1 purple obi (deeper purple)
1 orange obi
1 fukuro obi

Ok now that my rant is out of the way here are the pics of my new baby! (i wanted 1 more hitoe kimono and so that's what i got! isn't it pretty! it has a very nice dreamy quality... sigh...)

Just had to share

Ok so as i may or may not have mentioned, i plan on attending my senior prom in kimono. Now why bring this up you may ask... well i found my "prom kimono" and i just had to share.

In truth it kills two birds with one stone. I have wanted a Ko furisode for a while now and unless i am mistaken this is a Ko furisode.

Its synthetic too so as long as i don't spill Coke or some such thing on it I should be fine with a dry cleaning.
well that's it.

School

Ah Summer is over for me now. School has begun once more and as such i won't have nearly as much time to run around in kimono, but soon hopefully it will cool down and i can begin to wear Awase kimono once more. Well untill then guys i'll be seeing you.

here are the pics!

Obiage

Well i finally got in my 4 new obiage. Overall they are in good condition and only have a few stais or stains where it cannot be seen. The only disapointment i have is that the obiage i thought would be white or cream turned out to be a super light pink... otherwise all was its expected color... the gold fan i got with teh purple obiage is super cute and tiny though! XD

here's the pic of my whole obiage collection.
its not much but i'm still young and can collect more as the years go by. I have less then a month left before high school starts up again... its my last year and man am i getting nervouse! Well thats all for now. Every one thank you for looking at my blog!

To the Dark Side!

well I am feeling quite good right now all things considering. Ok first off i do indeed have an implant, woopde do... its short and feels as weird as it looks.

Now for the news that excites me... I may be converting my friend to the dark/kimono side. Her name is Kris. She already had an intrest in freign clothing, but she has Saris. I keep going oiff at her about kimono so she desided to learn a bit about it... and she found it very interesting and deep, just like me. so if i play my cards right i may get a kimono buddy my age (no offence to you Marry Ann, i loves you too,  but with our age gap there is always gonna be a bit of a gap) it would be very cool if i did lure her over... one step closer to my kimono club/ group dream!

And thats all. i just took my pain meds so i'm getting very, very sleepy... lols... nite every one!

Teeth...

well today's post has nothing to do with japan or a rant (maybe). i just wanted to inform every one that today i get a tooth implant.

You see when i was young they had to pull out one for my frount teeth because they feared the tooth would grow out of my face and so now i have a large gap. they have already stuck some bone up in that spot and will now stick a metal screw (or thats sorta what it is) in the same spot and then a cap that looks like an awsome tooth! yay, no more snaggle tooth for me.

there isn't too much that can go wrong really but Oral surgery of any kind (including a cavety filling) makes me freak out at phobia levels. so this time i asked for anti anxiety pills along with the knocking out option...

well thats all,  it'll be a few days before i post anything because i may feel super wonky and i have no clue how i'll feel aboy my smile. so see ya guys, wish me luck!

Nemuneko

Ok so here Is a pic of my new nemuneko plush, I'm naming her Suzu.

Update July 13

Ok this is mainly one of my Rants i guess but i felt the need to post some news.

First off my newest Zori Arive probably Tomorrow (maybe today) i am very excited, overall my Rakuten expirience was not bad. I just probably won't use them offten... mainly because even though the shoes were just under 9 USD with the shipping it ended up at 30+ USD anyway... but i do think it may be my go to for shoes still because of the veriety...

Second, i just wanted to inform every one i have desided on the color i want for my Prom kimono... Purple, a deep plum color would be prefrerable. Overall i think my Prom Houmongi will be the most expencive kimono i will get untill i have a solid carreer. I'm really glad i am strating my hunt early because i'm finding the color i want is a bit... well... hard to find... but it does exsist, the trick is to find something in my price range... right now my range is around 100 USD but untill my mom gives me an officall budget and i crunch some numbers it will still be my range... because i have lots more accesories then the average prom dress buyer... lols.

in other news. i still havnt received any hint from Naomi/The Immortal Geisha about shipping, not even a confirmation that she got my address... its making me a bit fidgety because i really want this prize i won... i have already desided not to enter any more raffles so i don't want this huge fish to be reraffled.... meh, Naomi if you can hear this please send me a sign that you got my adress!!! lols just kidding but i will send her a question on say saterday if i havn't heard from her by then.

Also my newest Plush toy came in the other day, Its a Nemuneko or sleepy cat. i desided to name mine Suzu. i'll post some pics of her As soon as i get some pics....

Finaly i just wanted to post a warning. I have a Proceeder/ surgery on monday... it may be some time before i post any more kitsuke pics... It all depends on how my smile looks really. Its an oral surgery because i have a missing tooth so i should finaly be getting my fake tooth... it may be a few weeks before i am comfortable with smiling and thus posting pics of kitsuke... because lets face it i'm a smiler in frount of cameras... i don't show to may other expressions when some one else is takeing my pics. oh well thats all for now.

I won...

Ok so today was the day that a certain Kimono Raffle ended... It seemed like a normal enough day, i mean i have had a long history of subpar luck when it comes to winning but i had entered any way. i spent a good chunk of the morning, checking and rechecking IG and suddenly i noticed i had a message... i had only ever gotten 2 PMs... 1 as a welcoming and another the other day when one of the administratitors contacted me about adding my yukata pic to their facebook yukata pic collection.

Then i saw that they had posted the results... of course i was all like "No.... it couldn't be..." so as soon as it was loaded i scrolled down to the Showa Retro Kimono Ensemble - Donated by Ichiroya & Naomi winners secotion... and i saw my user name. again i was like "really? i'm not seeing things?" so i check that PM and OMG (excuse the chat talk) i had actully won Showa Retro Kimono Ensemble.
I was simply extatic... i ran down strairs, arms flailing, to find my mom and tell her... then i told some friends and my dad... and then i filled out the nessisary info on IG so i would receive my prize and then i posted on face book and now i'm posting here... yay!

For those of you who are woundering what exactly did i win... well here it is:

Original picture from Immortal Geisha

and here is what it comes with:

    - Dark, dusty pink hakata nagoya obi

Zori Rant

Man... My newest pair (3rd pair) of Zori hasn't come in and i'm finding myself impatient even though i ordered them 2 measily days ago... i should be more worried about my Nemuneko (bought it, and issues ensured.... ):  ) but i want my zori, this time they are black with a little bit of blue, not that the blue was very visible in the pictures but oh well... They are sized at something like 23.7 cm- 24 cm... idk why they have a rang but what ever.

i have steadily been buying larger and larger zori mainly because i guess i feel my heel still sticks out too much... then again i have no clue as to How much is Too much and how much is Too little... i wish i had a mentor or something to tell me this... or a diagram. Then again all of my zori have been very tight as well from the top (blaming my largish western feet on that part). So i find myself wearing them properly (aka, the thong part is not crammed all the way inbetween my toes) which makes my heel stick out even more... oh well.

Either way i cannot buy (have desided not to anyway) and more zori till my newest pair makes its apearence... and maybe thats why i'm impatient... i have silver zori that feel a bit too small, i have some fake tattami zori that fit a bit better... and as soon as i get thease black ones and see how they fit i will probably hunt down a 4th pair... the 4th pair must be white... after that i guess i'll try for gold... and after gold i may as well see if i cant find a gray/silver pair that fits better then what i have...

i want to much kimono... thats my issue... i find myself wanting more and more pretty silk/cotton/wool/synthetic kimono... i dread my college days because who knows how i will take life living as a poor student? i plan on working part time though as soon as i have gotten comy with college life though, so maybe i can make a kimono nest egg and stuff and tap it one a month or so? but no i feel that might not be enough...

even though i dread the days as a poor student i find myself looking forward to the days where i'll have a job that pays more then minimum wage... when those days come i feel i'll need a cat, a new kimono every time i see 1 i cant live without, new zori, tons of obi and gasp... Obiage and obi jime galore.... i'm gonna stop my rant here...

on one last not i will post pics of my new zori as soon as they come in.

For those of you who never saw my old blog here is a link, there were only 8 postings and i wasn't very good at my kitsuke at the time but it tells a lot about who i was at around 1 year ago. yup soon i will be full circle and one year into my kimono love i got my first yukata some time in mid august and fell truly in love. so next month around lets say... the 18th, i will have some sort of celebratory thing, maybe it will be just dressing up, maybe i'll go somewhere... or maybe i will make a bento, get dressed in kimono and head out to the local park to wlak around in nature... who knows but i will do something.

well thats it for now. Good bye all of my readers (who ever you guys are).

Onigiri, Rakuten, and general kimono News

Alright I am beginning a sort of self Bento challenge, see every year my lunches start out as a whole sandwich and some fruits... But by the end of the year I end up eating just fruit and not much at that! So this year my resolve is to start making real bentos... I do have three bento boxes so I'm set on that, but I don't have that many things I can make and bring to lunch... I am a person who cannot stand to eat the same thing more then twice... unless its fruit...

So today i began my testing phase of sorts. I desided to begin by making onigiri. heres how they turned out.

Not bad looking right? for now they are plain but i plan on trying out diffrent fillings... though i have to be careful that i fell it with something that isn't greasy because i will probibly be making them weekly... Like say make three on sunday, and stash  them in the fridge and eat them through out the week..

But if the filling is greasy then it will surly come apart... right now my list of fillings to try just to try include:
-Avacodo
-tuna+mayo
-salmon
-egg
-hotdog

The avacodo will probably keep the best but i think hot dog can work well too...
I already plan on making rolled omlets to pack in too... so i probably won't use egg as a filling once school starts.

Currently i will look for otherthings i can stuff in a Bento... if anyone has a sugestion, post a comment please (i don't expect much just so you know)

xXx

Alright Next is my Rakuten bit, which won't take long because i don't have much to say at the moment. Today i bought a pair of black and blue (or so it said... could barely see the blue) Zori for a grand total of 700 yen which totals to just over $8. This is my first buy ever from Rakuten and due to the fact that the Zori were so cheep (they mentioned imperfections but hey... how bad can it be? and besides my feet will cover most of the top.) i am curiouse as to how it will end... I hope my first Rakuten expirience ends well and without isues because well, it has lots and lots of pretty things that are much easier to get off of there then say off of eBay... like zori, i saw a good number that was discounted.

xXx

Finally i have a general kimono news i would like to share. I have offically desided to wear Kimono to my senior prom. Soon i will be starting my last year of high school.. and truthfully i was quite undesided as to if i would go western dress so as not to stand out or to wear kimono and be able to rewear the dress and the memories. well i desided "i only go to senior prom once, why not make it memoriable."

Now see i did some "scouting" ( i guess you can call it) a few months ago and whent to prom as an 11th grader. that was a big part of my desision, i didn't dance much, i mostly sat and talked and i saw a girl wearing a sari which kinda made me wish i had worn kimono (never mind that she was indian in ethnisity and i am so totaly lily white...) either way i found myself wishing i had done it last year.

Now as for what i have desided upon for the moment all i have in the desired color departments are Black or bold... or maybe both? Also i want to wear a Houmongi or Tsukesage, not a furisode, i can't aford to think of my sleves in that sort of enviroment, and i think i'll probably wear a Tsuke Obi (I don't even want to think about my obi sagging pitifully.

so for now my list includes:
1 kimono
1 obi
1 obiage
1 obijime
1 pair of zori
1 matching clutch bag
hair accesories

Now the other thing to consider is the time of year, Last year prom happened in may... so i'll probably need a Hitoe kimono...
and the paterns i can wear are:
-butterflies
-wisteria
-azalea
-iris
-butterflies
-carp
-fawn
-peony
-paulownia
-willow
-thistle
-carp
I almost couldn't find this list becaus ethe website seems to be down at the moment... Luckly i had copied and pasted the list into a post on my old blog... I will repost the lift just to be helpful.

Well thats all for now, look for my posing of the Seasonal motifs which will be coming soon.

Bunny Kimono!

Ok so as the day of arival gets closer and closer i find myself planning! I want to wear this yukata to an oragami exibit held at the Lady Bird Johnson Wild flower center. Lucky for me i have a pink Hanhaba obi that should fit quite well! But i don't want to do a normal Bunko Musubi or anything similar i wanted something i could mix things up with.

so i'm gonna try this Tsunodashi style Musubi adapted for a Hanhaba obi. ^^ or thats how its labled on Imortal Geisha any way... it looks more like an Otaiko musubi...
well here is the link:
http://yukatalism.com/html/sp_kituke_12.php

also i will be doing the version that uses an obiage and obijime... or thats what they seem to be doing the translated version calls it Deep-fried and seems to refer to the fabric as Dough...
http://yukatalism.com/html/sp_kituke_13.php

I will probably try for a Kimono Hime Look... if only a little bit. I will be going with a half up and half down hair style, i recently got an easy doughnut bun maker that makes a cute if not slightly messy doughnut shaped bun... it works flawlessly with half of my hair... all of my hair is a diffrent story though! XD now all i need to do is make sure i have a purple hair flower accesory!
meh i just had to rant a little.

ah but here is a pic of what i bought just in case you're woundering!

This pic is dirrectly from Yukata Kimono Market Sakura and does not belong to me in any way but my isn't my new yukata cute? Yukata Kimono Market Sakura carries tons of cute and beautiful kimono... though the obi story is lacking...

Ok well overall obi arn't nearly as easy to find as cute kimono... when i one day go to japan i will buy kimono... but i think i'll have to stock up on Obi, obiage, and obijime... aka: buy 2-3 kimono and like 10 obi, 15-20 obijime, and 12-16 obiage. Oh and maybe i'll buy some obidome... though my friend is looking into an "instant Obidome" thing... it would help with all of my broaches...

ok rant done. i'll end this here.

Monday, June 18, 2012

Slow season...

Well the slow season for kimono sales has started, i had heard about it but wow never realised how slow they ment... Shinei's sales on E-bay have come practicaly to a standstill... and they are who i buy from the most... well Ichiroya and the other such websites are still running and updating but i have yet to find my pink iromuji for my cosplay... sigh well i do still have a lot of time...

On brighter news i finaly desided to get a new Yukata, a girl needs more then one and they are much easier to get then ro or sha... i mean yukata kimono  market sakura sells a ton for a pretty reasonable price... infact i'm going to buy one today... the shipping is quite fast so i should expect it in a week... Ah maybe i can wear it to an oragami exibit thats here all summer! well see you soon, i'll definatly have to post a pic of my outfit, its so cute you know... bunnies.

Cosplay Progress/ Animal ear tutorial

Ok so Yesterday i made the apron for the outfit... and today i finaly made the ears!

Not too shabby right? I chose this lovely brown fuzzy material because it most closly matched my hair. I atached the finished ear to a hair clip and so the ears fit quite well.
And now for The Tutorial i supose:

How to make Semi-realistic cat/fox ears

Note: Ok just as a note to any one just stummbling across my blog, i am not a super sewing hero or anything, i have sub-par hand stitching skills and a decent amount of skill on the sewing machine. Anyone can make thease ears its not rocket science.
Also I am A Pure loving kimono Fan and  i just want to be clear this is a kimono Blog and as such will probably never have a tutorial like this again.

Supplies:
at least two square feet of your fabric of choice (Fake fur works best but fleece can be used as well)
1 sheet of felt that closly matched your fabric
1 sheet of stiff felt, this is what will give your ears shape and a certain flexability you should be able to buy it at a craft store.
1 needle
1spool of thread that closly matches your fabric
scissors
Vacuum
1 sheet of paper

The one to the left is the normal felt the one to the right is the stiff felt you need to have one

Step 1: Cut out your pattern. I used some basic printer paper. The patern for the ear should be curved and not too pointy. I added a curve to the bottom so that it would fit the conture of my head better.
The second part of the pattern is the bottom ear liner, this helps keep your ear in the shape you desire.
If you wish to copy my pattern so be it but my tutorial should work for any similar pattern.
Note: make sure that the bottom liner pattern is a bit big

Step 2: Useing your pattern cut out the following amounts.
2 sets of the ear pattern (two for outer ear and two for inner ear)
2 of the bottom liner out of your same fabric as the inner ear
2 of bottom liner out of your floppy normal felt
and finaly two ear peices out of your stiff felt. here is what mine looked like:
As you can see the shiner of the two materials is my fake fur for the ears. the rest is some variation of felt.

Step 3: Take one set of iner and outer ear. thats one of each. Now Place them right side to right side, or in my case fur side to fur side and hand stich the whole length.

You could use a sewing machine but trust me hand sewing looks much better. Also Start at the top center of the ear and work your way down one side and then the other, this helps with symatry.

when you are done your ear should look like this:

Step 4: Turn your ear right side out, or fur side out like so:
Now i sugest you insert one of your stiff felt ear peices, it should be larger then the surounding fabric due to the fact that your fabric shrunk a little due to seams.

before trim

After the trim

Also don't forget to remove the stiff felt, if you leave it in its harder to sew.

Step 5: now take one of your bottom libner peices, it should be the the one made out of the same fabric as the inner ear:

First take the center and line it up like so:
As i said before start at the center, in this case start at the narrow part. work your way to one corrnor then tie it off and start in the ceter again.

Here i am half way sew on.

The second side can be a bit more difficult but don't worry too much.

when your done it should look like this:

Step 6: Make sure the fur sides are out. Now its time to insert your stiff Felt into the ear once more.

As you can see the ear now stands stright up on its own... but it does take a bit of wrestling to get the stiff felt in.
Note: you may need to trim again on the corners. also if you want to add any stuffing to the ear nows the time.

Step 7: your getting close to being done.
Now just to make it easier on ourselves before the last step do a wide and quick stitch to seal the pocket with the stiff felt.
Just quickly sew it shut, trust me it makes it easier on yourself.

Step 8 (the final step): Lastly sew on your soft felt, don't worry about visible stiches because its on the bottom, though this is why i sugest fake fur and not fleece.

When you get towards the outer edge of the bottom liner you may find you need to trim your felt, you should have the fur bottom liner visible for about 1 cm, fold/roll it in and sew the felt to it.

And you are done! your ear should look something like this:

And there you have it, from here you can sew or glue the ears onto clips, headbands, or anything else that will hold them in your hair.

I know this hasn't been the best tutorial but i hope it helped one or two people out there.
