Rainy day kitsuke

well yesterday was yucky and gray... but i just had to get in kimono and feel pretty. This was my second kitsuke in  two days which is more kitsuke then usual for me. So i broke out my IG Prize and put on the main peices... as in the kimono, the obi, the obijime, and the obiage. being still quite warm here in Texas i wore my hitoe juban (if i had a Ro juban i'm sure it would get much love). Texas has a longer and hotter summer then japan (i think any way by their awase- hitoe- ro/sha calendar) so i may not be able to wear awase much untill  mid october...

oh well thats enough gripeing! so here are some lovely kimono pics!

I must say, thease are some of my favorite kimono pics so far. I look cute, the kimono looks neat... my 1+ years of self teaching have paid off! thank you for the support every one! (though i mostly get support from the stats... i wish more people commented...)

furisode and weekend plans

Ok so a while back i got a furisode, a nice long and pretty one... the sleeves are around 110 cm long! So here is a pic of my most expensive kimono!
well I plan on wearing this baby to Easter so i will practice, get better, and try again! :D

In other news, there are two events this Saturday! The first is something yearly, it is called the hairy man festival. this festival has food, local shop sellers, games and even a few rides. The reason for this festival is mainly due to a legend.

here is the legend,  i got it from: http://www.texastripper.com/round-rock/hairy-man.html

The legend of Round Rock's Hairy Man dates to pioneer days. Various versions of the local legend say a young boy either fell off a wagon as pioneers headed west or was separated from them by flood waters. However it happened, the boy then either lived on his own in the woods or was raised by local animals. Eventually the boy grew into a man and became a hermit and, well, very hairy.

The story says the hairy man frequently tried to chase away strangers and would hide in the trees to scare passers by, sometimes sitting up in the tree canopy which grew over the road, dragging his feet on the top of passing stagecoaches. One day, he supposedly fell in front of a stagecoach and was trampled to death, doomed to haunt the shady road to this day.

Well that is the legend...  and so almost every year we celebrate. there is even a hairy man contest!

The second event  is the Austin Teen book festival. I will leave the house at 9:00 am and head over to a friends house so we can go and have fun! And of course... i will be going in kimono. I think i will go in my bunny yukata (the true last yukata wearing of the year for me) and i hope to have a lot of fun (when else can i wear a kimono?).

well that's all folks!

I can't seem to stop!

I'm beginning to feel as if i have a bit of a kimono problem... so i have decided that i will only buy two more kimono this year... one of which i just purchased... tee hee? (pic of my new baby at the bottom)
Otherwise i really feel i need to focus on obi... i have already gotten a nice amount of obijime and i now have 7 obiage (3 pink, 1 purple, 1 red, 1 green, 1 yellow) which is a pretty decent amount... but i feel i am very much lacking in obi!

So over the next few months i plan to begin operation obi! i currently have 12 kimono in my hands, 2 more are on the way... but i only have 9 obi... kind of sad right? I mean the respected ratio is supposed to be 2 obi for every 1 kimono... i don't even have a 1 to 1 ratio... and so my goals:

- to buy 5-7 obi

i need some fun colors too... i have too much in the pink and red department... i also have a good number of cream obi... so i am aiming for
1 yellow obi
1 green obi
1 purple obi (deeper purple)
1 orange obi
1 fukuro obi

Ok now that my rant is out of the way here are the pics of my new baby! (i wanted 1 more hitoe kimono and so that's what i got! isn't it pretty! it has a very nice dreamy quality... sigh...)

Just had to share

Ok so as i may or may not have mentioned, i plan on attending my senior prom in kimono. Now why bring this up you may ask... well i found my "prom kimono" and i just had to share.

In truth it kills two birds with one stone. I have wanted a Ko furisode for a while now and unless i am mistaken this is a Ko furisode.

Its synthetic too so as long as i don't spill Coke or some such thing on it I should be fine with a dry cleaning.
well that's it.
