X-mas eve 2011

well i'm ready to head off to church but my whole family (even my dad whos all like you have an hour an hour and a half at most) well i'm posting because once again i am wearing a michiyuki ensamble. today its a black turtleneck, black dress pants, black 2 1/2 inch heels, and my michiyuki. I have a cloak (must have for winter kimono in the usa) that i will wear to keep the wet off of my michiyuki (yes rain not snow in december... ah texas).
I am so looking forward to tomarow. i get a whole slew of michiyuki, a bunch of geta, a donabe (yes my mom held it back till x-mas), and i think some other kimono items (i hope i don't remember some, that makes it a surprise)but untill then i have to go to church and wait till at least 9:30 before going to bed... i mean any earlier would be a little sad and besides i am sure my sleep will be less then stelar any way i'm one o fthose people who wakes many a time in the night. well i better go pester my parents.. and their gift wrapping (yes indeed they waited till NOW to wrap OUR presents, th eour refers to me and my sister.)

well happy holidays every one who happens across my blog (some times this feels more like a diary... but i try and keep everything jap oriented at least.... XD so again happy holidays or as a sign on our door reads 'HAPPY EVERYTHING!' XD

Red Fever

Man oh man i'm finding more and more that when i see a red kimono i gasp and go weak at the knees... i don't knw why either, i mean my favorite color is purple... and i am gaining a certain fondness for black and blue. But to me Red is stunning expecially in a Kimono. I wounder why... Oh well, just a random ranty post that i felt like getting out. =P oh well. Christmas is almost upon us and i cant wait, i know i'm getting 9 michiyuki, and a couple of other things... that excape me at the moment but i know they are kimono related. lols i really am forgetful! Well with all those new michiyuki i will have to have a michiyuki photoshoot and post em all here, and on Immortal geisha. lols Merry christmas all, i know i will post soon!

Bitch'in Threads

I whent today, finaly. Now what i have to say about the little shop. It did nindeed have kimono, and i learned that the word kimono is like the word moose, you cannot slap an 's' at the end. Now the kimono were in pretty good shape considering that they were hung up, there was a good yukata, and a kurotomesode that was spectacular... but otherwise it was mostly haori, and some odd stuff. Also it was all $100+ for sure, the Tomesode was about $600 and it wasn't even that spectacular except for its amazing condition. I say if you want some interesting vintage clothing, go, but if you want kimono... unless you have deep pockets i sugest you drive on.

In other news i bought a donabe today, its very cute and hopefully it will work well too! XD I have no clue when my obi will come in, but i hope it is soon, and i will probibly get a peach or blue gray obiage, and a creamish obijime... but there are a lot of obijime sets so maybe i will get a set of seven or something... meh cant wait for another dress up!

Vintage beauty reborn

ok so my newest baby isn't really reborn, but it is now wearable (as in i don't have to fear that a small tug will rip it terrebly! the collar took some fussing to get how i wanted but otherwise looks fine and pretty crip too. XD oh and i took pics, i think i look pretty good in this kimono, my obi works well with it but its just too much pink! i cant wait till my new obi comes in and i can see how it really looks... i digress... pictures! XD

Obi

Well yeah I bought an obi off of ebay some days ago... for my vintage beauty... i desided to post the pics. i think it will add a good pop, really make you go woa! it'll break up all that bland cream color and give it some... zest? i guess the word zest works. I plan to have a cream/white/pale pink obijime, so as to keep the lighter colors of the kimono from being compleatly forgoten. As for my plans on the Obiage... i'm unsure, i'm thinking pale blue, some pinkish color, or maby a greyish blue/ dark blue or a dark green or an orange colored obiage... i really don't know. sigh, i'll have to find something in those colors (not nesisarly an obiage) to see once i have the other stuff... oh well i promised pics so here they are!

Looks to be a stain/age mark/discoloration... but it won't matter because to wear a nagoya obi in the Taiko bow i have to do some extra stuff... meh i must say haveing a small waist is a blessing and a curse when it comes to kimono... oh well.

I wounder what flowers thease are... i'll have to post a pic on Imortal geisha and see if any one knows... otherwise... i will just call them 'geometric flowers' and be done with it.

Updates

well its day two of project 'fix the little things'!

Last night i sewed up the worst rip... it was the back shoulder seam right... not sure how to illistrate that better without the use of pictures... so yea. the riped seam was... well ripped about 1 inch long while the frount end of that same seam only ripped about 1/3 of an inch... the oposite shoulder seam, as in the side that would be on my left, is fine, perfect even... i wounder what the prevouse owver did to make those seams give like that... catch their sleave on the door?

I also wounder why they sewed the colar in half... was it so they could display it in a frame and not worry about it or anything? i have no clue... sigh... i also found some more age spots... yet i find them kind of endearing... like freckles. lols its like i say folks. it kinda grows on you.... like mold! XD

Well in other news that is totaly relevent, i bought what i think may be a well matching obi (if its not perfect, you know thease things are hard to judge as pics, i mean sure you can edit and hold em up to each other but you never know till they are both there together in the same room... physically) so yea i think it will match very very well and if the colors are slightly diffrent... it will still match pretty well. i'll post some pics later... lols.

Vintage baby! Squee!

Ok so i won an auction almost two weeks ago and i have been eagerly awaiting the arival of my vintage beauty kimono (as i fondly called it). well yea so my vintage baby came in today, after a botched get together with friends before aikido plan this cutie was exactly what i needed! XD

Sha has long sleaves, and her cream base is actuly a little more pinkish in color. there were more age/minor damage spots then antisipated, i also need to do some minor repairs, oh and the collar was sewn in half (i wounder how long it has been like that....) but all in all when i put that baby on all the flaws just seemed to dissapear (then again the majority of them were on the back >: D  ) so when i get home from class tonight i will begin my repairs (useing some 'invisible thread' for now untill i feel confident enough to buy visible 'gasp' silk thread!) and hopefully i will be takeing some pics on this fridayish.

Due to the more pinkish hue of the base i do think i will go with that red obi i've been pondering, but i think i should go with a blue (preferably a lighter blue) or an orange obiage with perhapse a cream colored obi jime so that the cream color isn't totaly dwarfed.... heh lets see what i find... i'll probibly put off untill after christmas is (probibly not) over till i buy them though. well lets see where the river takes us.

The A in Aikido stands for Awsome!

Well tonight i had my first Aikido class. It was fun, lots of falling down but i didn't hit my head or feel dizzy after some rolling thing in PE (yea doing three rolls head first makes one dizzy). My arms feel a bit weak but hey i was actully pulling some people with all my might (and throwing some of my 107 lbs in there too, its hard to knock down tall people)

On my way out from class i was walking to my car... when two men that i must describe as "Two elderly black men of the faith" walked out of the curch next door... well lets just say when a young girl walks by wearing a cat eared hat said to black men of the faith cant not stop her... i was haveing a mental freek out but i pasted on my girl scout smile/ girl scout cookie selling cutsie voice. and made it out ok... one was a paster... dosn't diminish the fear factor folks. lols.

Exams are coming up soon... then after the exams i can go check out the local kimono store... 'Bitchen Threads' yea to think that there are kimono sold at a place with a name like that... oh well.

WOW

so this weekend/monday has been exsiteing. all saterday morning i made adzuki bean paste. it was good, i got the right bean (HOOOOORAY) then i headed over to my New Buddy's place. there we had Hot pot, geeked out a little bit and i learned that i can at least eat hot pot with chopsticks... (yes normally i'm a fail with chop sticks) i discovered that tofu isn't the nasty substance i thought it to be (my vegitarian aunt would be so proud) after words i got lost on my way home, had to call my parents but eventuly made it back safly (i really need a gps/smart phone)  then on sunday i had an awsome day of lazyness.

Today, though cold and wet, was good. I whent to watch said buddy's Aikido class. And i am offically signed up... i start wednessday, and boy am i nervouse (its so bad i cant even spell the word! XD). i'm one of those people who never got into/ tried martial arts as a kid... dude i tried tenis, soccer, dance of all kinds (from tap, to ballet, to jaz), and quite a bit of other things, but never martial arts... by the time i was considering them i was at that age where i was very easily embaresed... i'm still easily embaresed... i just deal with it and if i have to look at the teacher/adult and say "I'm sorry but my mind just totaly whent blank. can i have a redo?"(it has happened...)

Oh well i've got to man up and give Aikido a real hard try, i have made a promise tomyself and that promise is "I will not Quit Aikido at least untill the end of the school year (late may)" I made it that way cuz if i'm not haveing fun, or i just find i can't do it, or to something of that effect then well... i tuffed it out for about 5 months. but i will give this thing one heck of a try! XD

Sigh, fall/winter blues

i wish spring would come quickly so i can go out and see the japanese garden (in kimono of course) i checked the place out a month ago and found that the japanese garden, while small, was jam packed with things of intrest, yet due to the drought it was void of allmost all koi andmost of the water features that would have made it stunning were not on...

There was one koi fish in the ponds, it had to be at least 10 inches long, probibly longer. and in that same pond was a working water feature... i kind of wished that they had a real pagoda and not the tea house... but hey japanese is japanese and i feel it will be stunning in spring, rain has been falling a bit more often and so my hope is that with spring will come more rain and a true japanese jewl....

oddly i feel better now. lols guess thats how life works.

Vintage!

The night before last i won a vintage beauty (well i hope its ok i mean some times you can never tell) and it looks in pretty good ocndition.

The lining apears to be yellowed but i don't think that will be too much of a problem. i am very happy.

Yay! Haori.

Well today my latest purchase from e-bay came in (yippee!) Its a black Haori with a single crest and an awsome woven pattern.( the lineing is of peacock feathers)

Now i know that this is pretty formal and the all black can have some meanings... not sure if they goes for haori as well... lols but the weaving is beautiful and hey, i live in america this is a good kimono item if you want to wear it places here... cuz black goes with all!

so yea i never did get around to takeing pics of my michiyuki outfit (i will try again for pics soon) so you'll have to wait on that one.

in other news i have a friend who is into photography and foreghin cultures, a while back they said they might want to do a photo shoot thing with me. and since spring is a whiles away and we are in a terrible drought i suggested we do a kimono crash coars/ study date. they liked the idea and so we may perhapse get together very soon. XD this will be fun.

i'm done. got no more news, tis why i haven't posted in a while...

Ok today i'm heading into school with a burgandy Michiyuki coat! i'm wearing it with a shortsleave turtle neck, a black ruffly skirt, black leggings, and some cute booties... all black. And i'll be wearing a scarf around my wait, it too is black but with a rose pattern on it with hints of yellow and green. i'll say how it whent later and maybe post some pics. XD

Meh...

I lost the bid on that kimono i wanted... it was this :
Sigh i really wanted it, it could have been worn from fall to early spring... alas it was one that got away....

Red

ok, so i have desided to let my hunt for a gold obi turn into a wait/stalk for the BEST gold obi within my budget. I would like said obi to have lots of gold thread and maybe a water like patern since my current Furi has a large wave like pattern on it as well....
In other news i have found a beautiful red kimono thats about my size... and i want it, i'll post pics later... when i know it is mine... or not.

Kimono envy

So, not so long ago we got some new neighbors. They are an older couple, easy to get along with ect. ect... well today i dressed up in kimono, and i met their grandchildren... and after the grand kids left i learned something that made me so green with envy. They had some one in their family fight in WW2 and they brought tons of stuff from japan! Not to metion some kimonos... the exact number is unknown but they are all pre/ during WW2 and one apently belonged to a geisha... i was so jealous! i wanted to see them... but its not like they had them... aparently they are in some relitive's home... suposedly sitting in some closet... my heart cryies out to them... i bet they arn't even folded properly... sigh... i wish i could see them.

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

storage... and things to come.

Yes well i have been pestering my mom to get me a rubbermaid thing to store my kimono in... i had been storing them in a box that was way to small and my new furi has migrated around the room... from a shelf in my closet to my recling chair to my bed back to that chair... well she finally got me one out of the goodness of her heart and i am happy i'm no longer makeing unnessisary folds in my kimono...

another thing to look forward to... christmas. It is november and thus my mother begins her anual search for gifts... since my x-mas list has never been very long i added some kimono stuff to it... heh heh heh heh. well thats all, i'm still searching for an obi and an obiage/obijime... thinking about purple for the later... oh well.

YAY!!!!! to the extream!

My furi came in today, dropped my bad and set about looking it over. there are some minor damages, a hole the size of the head of a pin, the little button that holds the collar together is gonezo and i need to repair the lineing a bit! BUT it is so pretty! pics (yup its a tad short, be that a lesson to me) (and note: still dun know how to turn them the right way... they are saved verticle but flip over when uploaded...)

Monday, October 24, 2011

Yay!

Short post (yes its about the furi i ordered... thats the only kimono news i have right now...) My Furi was shipped today and i was very, very happy to find out that it could arive as soon as this thursday, though i suspect friday or saterday to be more reasonable.

Once i have this awsome item in my hands i can begin a new quest for a gold (+white?) obi and deside offically what the colors of the Obiage and Obijime will be... i'll probibbly play it safe and get the same colors... right now i'm just gonna work up my collection slowly... but i plan on haveing lots of kitsuke things one day.... *sigh*

My next goal is a plain Komon which i suspect to be followed by a bunch of small accesory buys and Haori. Yay! i mean i can wear the Haori around town and all that without to much nervs or stares (i may have a thick skin when it comes to dressing oddly with a purpouse but i have never worn a costume to a restraunt... though Kimono is more then a costume... oh well)

Well i must say that this short post grew a bit due to rambling but oh well... i need to write an essay now so bye bye! DX

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Yes yes yes!

I won the auction for this lovely furi:
I am takeing abit of a risk because this kimono is from someones colection, here in the united states, and not from a trusted seller that dominates ebay (seriousely i think its rare for a kimono fan *cough* addict *cough* to give up ANY kimono they own... but then again hey who am i to judge?)

So i have already payed and all that, yay, so hopefully the payment goes through quickly and the woman (man?) will send it off to me soon, it says expected arival date was the 4 or 5 of november... but i can hope for sooner for one reason... they responded to my question same day, and thats a good sign. =) i hope my gut instict isn't wrong here... i really hope so.

Squeel

the aution ends tomarow, i'm so excited i cant focus on my APUSH Home work! btw APUSH stands for Advanced Placement United States History... Its a collage level course that i, an 11th grader is takeing now in hopes that i will get a magical credit so i won't have to take it again in collage... i already don't have to take US history, HA college in your metaphorical FACE!

Yea i just felt like putting my excitement out for any one to stummble upon... lols i hope this dosen't backlash... >.> oh well  if my fish gets away there are more in the sea... oh well back to my collage in High school home work... BLAH!

Monday, October 17, 2011

Sigh.... life.

i feel so slow... i wish i could update this blog weekyly with some sort of kimono news... but sadly i can't. My colection's not big enough for random kitsuke that involves diffrent color combos... i mean i have 1 Yukata, 2 hanhaba obis, 1 nagoya Obi, and 1 kimono that i'm not sure about what it is... probbibly a dressy komon or something, idk. But i wish i had enough kimono (and a job to pay for it) to do that... and do it seasonally.. the one kimono i do have is spring, sakura so it can be worn around april... sigh  i need a plain kimono for practice and tones of others for seasonallity....

On the otherhand it's three days till the lot i bid on auction's ends... i posted a pic of what it was last time, a lovely autum kimono.. sadly i doubt i will be able to wear it in season this year... it'll be febuary at least before i have a mostly compleat set on that one (i don't think i'm going to get zori yet... maybe sometime next fall because i plan on working again this summer... wasn't  sure on that frount untill i fell back in love with kimono, now i have to have some sort of job if i want to fun my obsession... i will also have to spend more wisely after this.... no more $100 kimono for me... not untill i have a job that pays like $15 an hour anyway.)

Sunday, October 16, 2011

hope....

i may be getting a furisode faster then i thought, sure it is specsifically for autum but hey i'm in america i can wear an out of season kimoo and no one will care... they'll be too busy watching a "white' american girl walk by to realize "OMG she's wearing out of season flowers!" (not that they'll know that to begin with.)

So yea i made a bid for an item on EBay, the seller didn't have its condition down so i asked and they said it had no visible stains (they said nothing about holes and i'll take that as a good sign because if there is a hole it must not be worth mentioning). I already sort of have a mental image of a good kitsuke combo,  this kimono:
Plus a mostly gold obi (some orange, yellow, red or brown on there would be ok) and then some royal blue accesories... one o fthe hardest color to find.... i may have to settle for only one blue accesory (obiage or obijime...) but i would prefere to have both of them blue... it would be strikeing and bring out the blue the kimono... yea i'm not being on the safe side with kitsuke combos... except for th eobi... that sounds pretty safe to me...

either way i'll have to wait and have my furi infrount of me (to see the real colors... and to actuly have it) before i do any real shopping for my hard to find treasuers... its called royal  blue for a reason... I hope i win this action... i first bid because it was beautiful and i knew i would regret it if i didn't even try toget it... but now its grown on me... i put my claim in not long after it came up and i would be sad to loose it... good thing i sighned up for austionsniper... even if someone outbids me i have autionsniper to save the day... i would love to have this kimono... it's grown on me... like mold... lols JK i really do like it though.

Saturday, October 15, 2011

...

Man oh man, i am bored and i keep finding things i want... more kimono... I'm not even entirely sure why i like them... all i know is that feeling i get when i wear them is priceless and a driveing force... Ok so i bid of a furisode, its a fall season furisode... lols if i win this auction i'll be one step closer to one of my dreams... Haveing a furisode for ever season... and then one thats multi seasonal. but before that i have a mental list of all the stiff i need...

1: furisode
2: Obi, Obiage, Obijime
3: a plainish Komon Kimono, so i don't have to drag out my best ones every time i want to practice.
4: a simple obi
5: another Komon Kimono...
6: Ko Furi with Hakama
7: houmongi
8.... ect

Man i need to make some cash... though all i do realy know is that after i compleat my furisode ensemble (when i get a furi) is that i want one or two Komons to just... wear. In fact i would like them to be pretty plain, or geometric so i can wear them fall-spring... i do want another yukata soon though as well perhaps something blue with little pink flowers to go with one of my hanhaba obis (hope i spelled it right XP)

Geh.... well i did dress up last night in my lovely kimono... still not sure exactly what it is but its just too nice to put on all the time... its sakura patern by the way... oh man i'm rambling, i better stop here... just had to have a mini rant thing.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Yay!

Well Monday night i dressed up in kimono... again... i can't help it! yes i know its my christmas present but.... its the only one i have! D= (i need to fix that soon... XD) oh well... heres a pic.

its better then my last one... though i need to show my nagajuban's collar more and my bow is... odd? well i blame that one on the fact that i was useing a folded up face towel for a substitute OBI MAKURA... the size diffrence is so great... i know that because....

dun dun dun dun! I got one today! XD and thats not all i got a whole set of accesories i was previousely missing *sigh of contentment* it came right when i was getting antsy for more kimono stuff.... i'll have to do some kitsuke this weekend again.... lols ^^ <--- in heaven. heres a pic of what my accesoriy/tool/ nessisary items (what ever you wish to call them) its the pic from ebay and isn't quite acurate... but it showes my point! ^^

Japanese candy

Well today i was puttering around the internet, after i had made my hat as seen below....
ANd i felt like makeing something. So i came acorss this thing called Zabon Satozuke
and the site told me how to make it. well first off this is basically candied Pomello rind/skin which can be substituted for grapefruit (which i did) so right now i am soaking the peals/Rinds in some water and will do so over night, the whole prosses involves lots of boiling, discarding of the water, boiling agin and then repeating. Then i add the sugar and cook it and eventually i coat it with more sugar... i sooo wounder what it will taste like....

Now anyone who reads this might wounder, "why make this?" well first off it sounds interesting and second off i had some odd desires that have begun to pop up in my head... one of which involves wearing a kimono to the supermarket/craft store and getting remembered for it.... But this thing is more about when i fufill another dream that has poped into my head. I want to start a kimono club here in the austin area (if there isn't one already).

You see i've been feeling a little lonly and prowling Imortal geisha only helps so much, i have a couple of friends who are showing some intrest in Kimono but not nearly as much as me... and so yea... i whent looking and was surprised to not find a Kimono club in austin... which i might add is the city that sells T-shirts reading "Keep Austin Weird!!!" I swear i already know the reaction any one on the street may have when they see you walking around in a kimono.

A.) they might stare at you for five seconds and then get on with their life.
B.) if they are a musician then they might stare at you for five seconds and use it as insperation for a song.
c.) they would ask you why your wearing a kimono, and after you tell them they would respon 'Cool'
d.) They would ask you to take a picture with you

Seriusly i doubt there would be ANY sort of bad reaction... There was a Japanese family who moved into the area when i was in Middle school, 8th grade formal dance the boyu gose out, the mom comes along armed with camera in a kimono... I thought it was cool... i don't hing any one tought anything off it acept to glance at her and then think 'hmm... you don't see that every day' and then get with the dance.

Ok well that was way off topic... well yea when i have a kimono club i think it would be cool to get together at my house, in kimono, and enjoy some tea together in kimono and eat some japanes sweets... next misssion.... makeing bean past for said sweets... labor intensive but dosn't look too hard. wish me luck will post pic of finished candied peels... oh i also used the inside of the grapefruit to make some gelato.... yum!

So maney bunnies...

Ok well by bunnies i mean rabit ear hats, and man while i'm only makeing 4 (gonna sell em and use the money for kimono, XD) Since the Ears are around 40 Inches long each thats a whole lot of ear. Guh, my serger (yes i'm serging parts of thease dang hats) was acting up last night, twas a spoiled child and tried to rebell in an atempt to make mommie angry, i swear its mad at me cuz i havent used it in a while... but i wuvs it lots and lots.

In other news i have began my hunt for a furisode... i want one so bad and i found one i like on E-bay.... if its still there when the money gets into my paypal acount then i will call it fate and snatch it up, if its gonbe by then.... well at least i can hope that one goes to a nice kimono home.... Back to the rabbit ear hats, will post a pic of one when i'm done.

AH-HA!

Yes well as the title may indeed state n a round about manner i realised something. i was puttering around Imortal Geisha (ok more like stalking) and i saw a pic of one of the members wearing a kimono (wich is beautiful by the way but thats besides the point of my realisation) and she was useing the tie thing to keep her sleeves out of the way. Now you see i have been trying out how to do that for a while now, cuz it seems so handy, and i saw the bow on her shoulder and suddenly it hit me and i knew how to do it. So i tried it out on one of my cotton costume kimonos,(handmade by me and useful for this sort of thing) it was one of my two purple 'Haori' style ones and as i was beaming at myself i remembered something i had nearly forgotten.

You see i have two cotton Furisode style costume kimonos (all the fun of furisode with the ease of a yukata, or so i tell myself)  that i made oh... um two three years back, well either way one, a blue one i might add, i had made 'too long' (this was in the days before i knew putting on a kimono took some folding) and for some reason instead of surgeing it across the bottom i mearly folded it, sewed it, and called it done.
So here i am ripping some seems with the plan of 'remakeing' it... eventually... i'll make it more acurate this time... but i suck at hems so i'll just serge some parts with a nice cream colored thread. lols.

Ok....

So if any one has noticed... i made a new blog and am moveing over to here... a random power outage caused me to log out of Gmail ( i don't think i've logged out in a few years btw) and next thing i know i spent two hours trying to remember a password i didn't remember. So i made a new Blog with a pass word i'm sure to remember.... yea... well sad... luckly its not like i have any dedicated followers right?  Psh... i'm a drop in the bucket of the internet.... oh well
